Buying a Home Alarm System

Ever imagined what it would be like to walk into your home one day and find the place ransacked?

Your home is a major part of your life, which houses many of your priceless possessions, like your electronic equipments, pictures, and things that hold sentimental value, like your mother’s ring, which is nothing more to a burglar than a part of the loot he can sell for cold cash.

I’ve watched the news, and how often they report a story of home invasion and burglary and sometimes they end up with causalities and murder. But you always have this feeling that that can’t possibly happen to you, it simply can’t.

But last week, my friend got robbed. Some burglar broke into his house and stole his possessions, including his Armani jacket and he beat up a puppy my friend has and must have thought it was dead. That’s when I realized that it’s too much of a risk to leave your home unguarded & I made the arrangements to have my home protected by a Home Alarm System. I felt it was better safe than to be sorry.

Upon doing a little research I realized that there are a large number of home alarm systems on the market today. Most of these are easily installed and have a human operator on line 24×7. If the alarm goes off the operator calls your contact’s phone immediately (you have to provide them with their easily reachable phone numbers). With these basic ideas I zeroed in on one of the Home Alarm System providers I found located in my city and gave them a call.

They sent a representative over to my house, who arrived immediately and showed his ID proof (reminded me of a cop). For over an hour we went through various schemes and packages available, and their relative prices (Although I wasn’t really concerned about the prices anymore. I had been to my friend’s house and I had gone to the vet to see how his dog was doing and it wasn’t a really pretty feeling).

Now, other than the basic feature of the Home Alarm System that has a live operator, they also come with other systems like fire, police and medical dispatch, which is only a touch away and a key chain remote access, allowing you to set or turn off the alarm when you’re going in or out of your home. You don’t need to punch in any codes to a keypad all the time.

After I chose the scheme I liked, the representative took off, to return the next day for the installation with 3 other people and a whole bunch of electronic equipments and wires. They showed all their IDs again (I felt this unnecessary now) and began the installation.

These people did the complete installation and all the wiring work necessary really well, because when they were done, all I could see was a sleek looking digital alarm box. They then explained to me how my new home alarm system worked and also added that, the alarm system had a back up battery system, in case of electrical failure (Which means that the alarm still worked even if the burglars cut off the electricity). My scheme also had two other features along with the basic home invasion protection. It had health monitoring features. This is important with people living by themselves (like me), it comes with a special monitoring device that would be kept on the body and used in the case of an accident where they need assistance. It also came with interior motion detectors that enabled the alarm to detect any motion in the house while I was away and this feature is not affected by the movement made by pets in the house. Technology sure is marvelous.

The representatives of the alarm company then left after putting up a yard sign outside my house announcing that my house was protected by the home alarm system. This was a really smart move because it had psychological effects, a would be burglar who knows how rapidly these alarms respond would be easily discouraged if he read that sign. I wouldn’t enter the house if I were him just like not entering places with boards like “Trespassers will be shot” and “Beware of Dog”.

Now, I wonder, how did foolishly I live without this foolproof protection my house now has.
